Police have arrested three persons in connection with a robbery committed at gunpoint in Sultanpur and recovered 68 stolen goats, Rs 2,40,000 in cash, and a car. The goats are estimated to be worth Rs 1.5 million. Investigations revealed that the stolen goats were to be sold in Lucknow for Bakrid.

Amethi SP Sarvanan T. said three notorious gang members involved in robbing goat traders in Sultanpur have been arrested. All three accused are residents of the Barabanki district and are aged between 18 and 21 years.

The criminals had robbed the traders on the night of May 27 at Chanda along the Lucknow-Sultanpur highway. The traders were transporting the goats in a Mahindra pickup van near the Mathabhusunda forest when they were targeted by the gang members, who were travelling in a car without a number plate.

Acting on a tip-off, the police set up a blockade and intercepted both vehicles. While the driver of the pickup van escaped under the cover of darkness, the three criminals inside the car were apprehended. The arrested persons have been identified as Ashish Goswami, Karan Singh, and Sanjay Singh, all residents of the Kothi Police Station area in Barabanki.

During the search, police recovered Rs 2,40,000 in cash, two pistols, and three live .315-bore cartridges from the trio. Additionally, 68 goats were also recovered from the pickup van.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that their gang operated by conducting a recce of animal-laden trucks at night before ambushing and robbing them at gunpoint.
